About the Event
The OSPS AGM will begin with a short meeting, where the financial statements for the prior year will be presented for approval, and where the 2020 Board of Directors will be elected. The AGM is open to the public free of charge, but donations are welcome.
This year’s guest presenter is FTFO Vice President Michael Healey, a University of British Columbia Professor emeritus and a renowned Canadian-born fisheries scientist, known for his work on fisheries ecology, natural resource management and the role of science in public policy. Dr. Healey will introduce a holistic approach to the management of ecosystem of rivers, salmon, bears, using the forests in Pacific Northwest for context.
About OSPS
The OSPS works to acquire and preserve parklands for the health, recreation, education and natural enjoyment of the public, to seek preservation of habitat for wildlife, and to protect natural biotic areas for scientific study. Formed in 1966, the OSPS has successfully established Cathedral Lakes Park, Conkle Lake Park and Okanagan Mountain Park. In addition, the OSPS has helped to preserve historical trails such as Hudson’s Bay Fur Brigade trail, the Kettle Valley Railroad and more. The OSPS supports and works with other naturalists and conservationists, and all levels of government in its endeavors. The OSPS is registered as a charitable organization in Canada.
