"This year is quickly turning out to be a comeback year for EVs. The opening of the market to lower-cost imported models and reintroduction of a rebate already changes the math significantly on purchase. Based on average 2025 gas prices of $1.42 per litre, we found that over a ten-year ownership period, Canadian drivers typically save $20,000 to $30,000 by choosing an EV."

"At the same time, the Iran war is causing rising prices at the pump and making Canadians acutely aware of how much it costs to drive a gas vehicle. With gas prices as high as they are now, the savings go up by another $7,000."

"We also renewed our analysis for the cost savings of electrifying homes. Despite the removal of the consumer carbon price and various incentives, heat pumps are still cost savers when switching from conventional electric and oil heating, and in some provinces when switching from natural gas. And clean homes offer a range of other benefits, including safer living spaces, healthier indoor and outdoor air, and increased comfort. "

"Alongside the new report, Mycleanbill.ca—Clean Energy Canada’s easy online tool for households—has been updated to include new resources and a more interactive breakdown of upgrades, costs and emissions savings based on custom inputs like province, housing type, and number of vehicles.

We encourage you to have a look at the full findings in the report."
